How to Measure Dometic Awning
PATIO AWNINGS
- When installing a new patio awning on a recreational vehicle, the location of windows, doors, storage compartments, and trim must be considered so the awning will not block or obstruct them. The floorline and solid structural members must be located for proper and secure mounting of hardware.
- The true awning length is obtained by measuring between top casting to top casting, center-to-center (see illustration below).
- The two bottom mounting brackets should be positioned directly in line with the floorline of the vehicle. Make sure the center-to-center distance between the two bottom mounting brackets is exactly the same as the distance between the two top mounting brackets and the awning length (see illustration).
- When ordering replacement fabrics or roller tubes, specify the center-to-center measurement between the top casting and NOT the length of the fabric or roller tube (see illustration). When ordering new awnings, specify the length to nearest foot, not to a fraction of a foot.
WINDOW AWNINGS
- When installing window awnings on a recreational vehicle, first measure the overall width of each window frame.
- The awning length is obtained by adding 4" to 6" to the overall width of the window frame.
UNIVERSAL VINYL REPLACEMENT AWNING FABRICS
Dometic can cut fabric for any awning made by other manufacturers.
- Measure length of fabric end-to-end (A).
- Determine the diameter of polycord at roller tube. Polycord is sewn inside the fabric.
Cut sections of your old cord and compare with diameters shown below.
*Other than A&E Awnings
Note: Give us the exact measurement of your old fabric length - not including awning hardware. If brand is a Carter Awning, please also specify width of fabric (B).
